Residential Space Planning
Most rooms that feel wrong are not ugly — they are badly planned. Space planning is where we resolve circulation, zoning, storage and furniture composition on paper, at scale, before a single decision costs money.
Plan first, furnish second
We measure the space as it actually is — not as the developer drawing claims — and redraw it to scale with door swings, radiators, sockets, sightlines and the real depth of your existing furniture. Almost every layout problem becomes obvious the moment the plan is honest.
From there we test options. A 900 mm walkway held around a dining table, a sofa moved off the longest wall, a doorway that stops fighting the sofa back. We work through two or three layouts and show you the trade-offs of each rather than presenting a single answer.

Zoning a room that has to do three jobs
In Los Angeles and Orange County apartments, one room is often lounge, office, dining room and guest bed. Partitions rarely help — they steal light and floor area. We zone with axis, rug edges, furniture backs, ceiling-height changes and lighting circuits instead, so each function has a centre without the room reading as chopped up.
Where furniture has to move, we specify pieces that move well: lightweight chairs, a nesting table, a bench that stores. Nothing that needs two people to shift.
What you receive
A dimensioned plan set, a furniture layout with every piece sized, a circulation diagram and a written rationale explaining why the layout works. It is legible to you, to a contractor and to a furniture supplier — which is the point.
Questions we are asked
- Can you do space planning without the rest of the design?
- Yes. Plenty of clients start with planning alone, live with the layout for a while, then come back for materials, lighting and furniture.
- Do I need architectural drawings first?
- No. If drawings exist we will use them, but we survey and draw the space ourselves either way.
